I am lucky enough to live on Munjoy Hill in Portland, Maine, just a short walk to the waterfront. I get to see Spring Point lighthouse almost every day. This painting is done from a photo I took on board a Casco Bay Ferry. I loved the view of Spring Point Light with Portland Head Light in the background.
The day was cloudy and mostly overcast with bits of sunlight visible now and then through breaks in the clouds. The clouds in this painting are from my imagination to add drama and interest to the artwork.
Spring Point Light sits as a marker for cargo ships and tankers at the western side of Portland, Maine’s main shipping channel. It was built in 1897 after years of steamships running aground on Spring Point Ledge. The jetty is easily accessible to tourists and is a popular spot to fish in Portland Harbor.
