This painting depicts Goose Rocks Light just after noon, with the beacon’s shadow being cast upon the 51 foot tower. It also depicts the rust-colored patina near the waterline, common among cast iron lighthouses.
Goose Rocks Light is located off of Stimpson’s Island in North Haven, Maine in Penobscot Bay. It was built in 1890 and is still an active navigational aid. It gets it’s name from Goose Rocks ledge between Stimpson’s Island and Widows Island in Vinalhaven, Maine.
Goose Rocks Light is a cast iron caisson lighthouse, also known as sparkplug lighthouses.
Confession time however, I have actually not visited this lighthouse yet. This artwork was painted from a photograph taken by Gary Richardson of www.cyberlights.com and used with his permission. I will be updating this post and adding new artwork when I personally visit the lighthouse in the future.
